Tahiti Inn, Quaint and A Good Deal!

We have been going to ocean city, nj for many years now and one stop that we have to make every year for at least one night is at the tahiti inn. This hotel is a landmark i would have to say. It sits on the corner of 12'th and ocean ave. You can not miss the memorable blue waterfall out front. It is no more than a few steps to the boardwalk, and you can cut in through the surf mall too. The gallelli family runs the place magnificently. The place is always clean and tidy. The pool is a added bonus because the sea breeze doesn't freeze you like other on the boards. I would recommend this place to anyone that would like to visit oc on a budget. And the location makes it easy to visit the boards, for those that know what i mean.....finding parking and then having to walk a city mile takes alot of the fun of the boards away....but being only mere steps away makes this place worth it's weight in gold....bravo tahiti inn...see you in june.

Very close to the boardwalk, we had apt #7. We had problems with the air condition, but they fixed it 2 days later. My other problem was I had to ask for bathroom towels even though I left the dirty towels outside to be picked up. I don't think the owner was aware of our problem. The rooms were very clean when we arrived. But we still had a great time and if they would assure no further problems we would visit again.

Me and three of my friends stayed at the tahitii inn during our senior week 2003. They treated us with much resepect but I wouldnt reccommend it as a place to stay if you're looking for a senior week hotel. They make you wear wrist bands, no friends are allowed, security deposit of $200 per person, and it is also very small. The advantages were, it is very very close to the board walk.

No Frills Value

Last july (2003) we vacationed in ocean city for the first time in almost 20 years. For about 7 years in the late '70s, early '80s, we had spent a week in one of the tahiti's apartments with my parents and children. In 2003 we decided to revive the tradition, except we are the grandparents now! Not much has changed at the tahiti since the '80s. In fact, i think we had the same blankets they used back then! I know the furniture is the same. However, the motel was well run, the service staff was great, and our week was wonderful. With 3 small children (under age 6), it was nice to be right at the boardwalk and beach, and it was great to have the pool when the seaweed moved in. The ability to eat outside in the apartments' private area was a big help with the kids. Plus they could run around and play in the protected space. We didn't have to move or drive our cars for an entire week because the tahiti is conveniently located within walking distance of everything you need, including a nice sized grocery. The cost of the week, while not inexpensive to a family on a budget, was a good value for the money. My only two real complaints were about the age and condition of the furnishings - come on gillellis, you can afford to upgrade a little! - and the over chlorination of the pool (and the feeling that it was less than clean at times). The pool is very heavily used and they seemed to have a problem regulating it. Make sure your kids take goggles. Other than that, we were well satisfied with our stay and have reserved an apartment for this summer again.

We Were Deceived

This looked like a nice place on the outside, but it was one big disappointment. It was by no means reasonable, and we would not have minded that except that the room was so shabby. The floor was so dirty that we never let our children take their shoes off, their feet would get black. We needed a lightbulb for lighting and it was like pulling teeth. The pool seemed so over used and dingy. It needs an update and freshening up. I would rather stay home.

Total Disappointment

We spent two nights at the tahiti in july. The room was terrible. Dirty faucets, dirty floor in the bathroom, which was so small you could not move without bumping your elbows. The towels were threadbare, the bathmat was paper. The refrigerator smelled so strongly of fish that the management replaced it with another unit. They will not give you a room number when you make your reservation and believe me they gave us the worst room. The other rooms might be better but i'll never stay there again to find out. Also the parking is pathetic. We had to park in the public lot beside and behind the hotel. All this was way overpriced and on top of it all they tried to charge us for phone calls we didn't make. Turns out it was the people who occupied the room before us and we had to stand in the office and wait while they called the phone numbers to verify that the people called did not know us. This was insulting. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Just A Few Small Complaints... Nothing Major
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

Visitor Review
This past summer was the second year in a row i had stayed at the tahiti inn. We didn't have any complaints the first summer, other than having to rent the t.v. Remote which you know longer have to do, but this past year a few small issues occurred. First, the air conditioner was on a fritz. Supposedly maintenance came and checked it while we were out one afternoon, but there was no difference. Second, compared to the bathroom we had two years ago, this bathroom was tiny. Third, we actually paid extra for a "pool side" room, but little did i know, the pool side room literally faced pool side and once you went to the window, everybody in the pool area was staring in the room, we couldn't even keep our curtain open. Finally, the biggest complaint was the parking. The first summer, we had no problem whatsoever, however one night there was no parking in the main lot so we had to park in the less convenient nearby lot the hotel rents out. Other than that, the hotel room was decent, and it really is a great location to the beach and boardwalk. I would recommend this hotel if you don't need everything to be perfect, just decent.

Great Place for Young Adults

My girlfriend and I stayed at the tahiti inn a few times last summer. We wanted to stay at nicer hotels, but they all have that 21 or older age restriction. After some research, we were reccomended to stay at the tahiti inn. The price is good, its right on the boardwalk, the rooms are clean. Not many complaints. The rooms are a bit small, along with the pool, but other than that its a great place to stay if no other place will allow you to. You will have to pay a security deposit though, along with the possibility of wearing a wristband the whole time so they know you arent a visitor.

A Major Let Down
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

Visitor Review
A few friends and i just recently stayed at the tahiti inn for three nights. I must say that we were majorly disappointed. When we walked in the main office for check in the manager of the hotel was screaming about some of her employees and complaining about most of them, which i found highly unprofessional. We then proceeded to check in and our room was not ready until a half hour after they told us we could have it. The water fall bridge you walk over out front was completely disgusting and didn't seem like it has been cleaned for years. The pool which was supposed to be heated was freezing cold and there were dead bugs in one of our beds. One of the lights were broken in our room and when they came in to clean the room the next day they didn't replace our towels. We were extremely disgusted the whole time and needless to say we won't be making a return trip there. The only good point....and i mean only....... Was that it was very close to the beach and boardwalk. So if you don't mind feeling like you are staying at a campground rather then a hotel the tahiti inn is right for you.

It Was Fine for Us
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

Visitor Review
The location is hard to beat, being half a block from the beach and boardwark and $145. Parking was fine for us. It was clean. We did have one large bug, but its to be expected with concrete and pool nearby. They were good about cleaning the room. We did have the problem with not being able to open our shades without the whole pool area seeing us. Pool is smallish for number of people. Surprisingly quiet for being poolside, but then again we leave our fan/ac running to help drown out any noise. We enjoyed what seemed like a somewhat more mellow crowd, maybe due to it being a dry town. People still were enjoying beers they brought with them. You still have to leave $20 deposit for phone, remote, keys and car tag. There are definitely are some things they could do to upgrade the place a bit. The small fridge in the room was handy, but no coffee maker and no coffee served in the lobby. So first thing in the morning we had to walk up to the boardwark just to get some tea and coffee. Luckily there is a restaurant right at the boardwalk. They also need hair dryers in the room and the paper bath mat is ridiculous. Also, a sheer second curtain or half curtain would solve the privacy problem with the windows. I'd stay again, my 85 year old mom, my two daughters and i, enjoyed our stay.

Great for The Price

One of my friends and i stayed at this hotel for a couple days the second week of august. I must say i was a little nervous, making reservations at a shore hotel. Shore hotels don't have the best reputation for being up to date and clean. This hotel proved me wrong. When we checked in, our room was immaculate. The carpet looked fairly new, and the beds were clean and neat. The bathroom and the sink area were spotless. The cleaning crew did a great job. I felt it was also a very safe hotel. To get into the part of the hotel where the rooms were, you had to use your key to get into a door, which meant only a guest at the hotel would be able to get into where the rooms were. This meant that a stranger off the street could never get near the rooms. It was half a block away from the boardwalk, right in the middle of all the shops. For being so clean, safe, and so close to the boardwalk/beach, the price was great. I would recommend this place to anyone and i also would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Good Deal, But You Get What You Pay for
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

Visitor Review
We stayed here beforee the season started and got a great deal. I think it was only around $40 a night. The room was very basic looking and i could never imagine staying there for the full price that people pay in the summer. I couldn't imagine a family having to all stay in that one room. The bathroom was kind of small and right next to one of the beds. The floor mat in the bathroom was made out of paper. It looks very nice from the street, even kind of exotic with the water fall and rock facade by the front enterance. The room seemed very outdated and we didn't feel safe walking on the floors with our bare feet. I wouldn't say we actually saw dirt on them, but it just felt like one of those old run down motels inside where you don't know what could have gone on in there! I can't say i would stay here again, but it's just not my kind of place. It's okay for college kids or other younger people who are used to living in dorms or dont worry about that kind of stuff.

I rented a 2 bedroom apartment in september. The apartment wasn't fancy, but had everything we needed. The kids enjoyed the heated pool. It is very close to the beach and I will be returning.
