"Great room in the off season"

The beds are so comfortable and the amenities in the room were perfect. We had an efficiency with small refrigerator and microwave. We had a lovely dinner in the dining room and enjoyed the big band sounds on Sinatra night. Great getaway at a great rate in the off season.

The price was right. We were greeted by friendly courteous staff who were helpful in giving whatever information we needed. The food and service in the hotel dining room were first class. The room was kept clean and comfortable. We used this hotel last year, this year and would certainly use it in the future.

"Excellent Hotel"
By Jacob of North Brunswick on Friday, October 02, 2009

Two queen beds was a nice touch. Hotel being adjacent to the Beach was very convenient. Balcony was not clean, lights were out, and the bathroom supplies were never replenished. For the later two items we had to call the front desk a couple of times to get it fixed. Pool was small, but the kids enjoyed it

"Solid Place to stay"

Nice comfortable place to stay. Nothing stellar, but a fine older building. Wireless access in the room was remarkably stable . On minor nit was a surcharge for the right to have a telephone (used or unused) in the room. It was very trival, but it required an additional charge on my credit card a check out. If I can't opt out of having the phone and hence the surcharge, but it on the regular bill.

"Beach Location, Condition, Amenities"
By G of New York on Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Visitor Review
Located on the beach, so a great location. But rooms on East Wing need renovation, signs of advanced wear showing. Lobby restaurant and bar is only eatery on premises and they only offer a large, expensive buffet for breakfast. Would've liked to just order a simple Take-out egg sandwich, coffee, bagel, etc., most mornings but this was not possible. So wound up having to go off-premises not too far to get what we needed rather than get pulled into paying for unnecessary loaded breakfasts when you're not all that hungry. Italian Restaurant named Luigi's attached to and operated by the hotel had very poor service and below average Italian food. Waited to be seated for 20 minutes without anyone greeting us or saying a word although there were at least 12 tables vacant. So we just never went back after first time. Strange place for that kind of business attitude. On the upside, the beaches were glorious. Pristine, white sand, a dream. But you can get that at any other hotel on the beach as well.

"Ok for the hotels price we paid"

Couldn't be too upset with this hotel because of the price we paid. The beach, pool, and location were great. The rooms were dirty, smelly, and noisy.I'd avoid the hotel restaurants as they were very slow and the food was absolutely horrible, but there are other restaurants nearby.

"aged hotel"
By Anonymous on Friday, September 04, 2009

Visitor Review
The service was fine and the people were very nice. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. However, the overall condition of the hotel was run down. It is an older hotel than I expected and the pool was very small, mostly for young children. The view of the ocean can only be seen by the ocean front top level rooms. Unfortunately the poolside was enclosed with landscaping so that you were not able to view the ocean at all. I would not return.

We were at the golden inn for the week before labor day (m-f). We were in the west wing, which definitely needs a renovation. Interesting to read in the previous review that the east wing (much more expensive and supposedly newer) isn't much better.

Go To The Restaurant, But Don'T Stay Here
By Anonymous on Wednesday, June 14, 2006

Visitor Review
As others have said, the staff is friendly and attentive and the food is good, especially the breakfast buffet. However, the cleanliness of the rooms and the condition of them is poor. When I arrived the toilet hadn't been cleaned, there was hair on the bathroom floor and the bedside table had multiple rings in the dust from wet drinking glasses that had been there. The floor wasn't vacuumed and there was hair on some of the towels, washcloths and the bedsheets. Even after the maid returned to redo the bathroom, it was dirty, so I cleaned everything myself with some pine-sol I picked up at wawa. At least then I could tolerate the room for the weekend conference I was attending. The rugs are old and dirty, the screen door was off of the track so I couldn't even air out the musty smell and the mattresses are old and dirty. I wouldn't return to this hotel.

Short version - don't come to the golden inn. Shabby rooms. The air conditioning in the east wing sounds like a tractor trailer truck engine. Front desk service is awful. Noisy. You can hear cell phones and conversations in the adjoining room; noisy kids running up and down the hallways.

A Great Place To Stay

We just returned from our stay at the golden inn. We had a wonderful experience. The hotel room was clean and spacious and the staff was friendly and helpful. The pool area was quite nice with an outdoor grill cafe that was perfect for a quick lunch after being at the beach. The breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant was a terrific value and the view from the restaurant overlooking the pool area reminded us of the caribbean. The wait staff was also very friendly. They were very accomodating, letting us use their beach tags and parking on the day we checked out. It was a very family friendly hotel and we would stay there again. It would also be nice for couples. I can't think of any negatives because it was such a nice trip.

When most jersey shore visitors think of a hotel on the beach, their expectations are usually not as high as what the golden inn hotel in avalon nj has to offer. This hotel is comparable to a hilton on the beach --with great service, cleanliness, and location!! I recently brought my sister and two of her freinds here for her sweet 16 and was immediatly pleased with our hotel selection upon arrival! I would definitly recommend this great hotel with its superb hotel restraunt management to anyone looking for a great place to vacation on the beach in new jersey!!

We just returned from a 4 day stay here. Positives: food was very good, breakfast buffet a great deal, staff very helpful and friendly, beach very nice. Negatives: we stayed in the east wing (closest to the beach) which was rather shabby for the price we paid ($350 per night). The room wasn't very clean, there was paint peeling in various places, the beds smelled musty and the doors had a large gap underneath which let in the hallway noise (kids and slamming doors). The other wing, at least from the outside, appeared newer and cleaner, but I doubt we'll take a chance on a return visit.

Making a reservation at the golden inn is like going to your hmo doctor: you better be willing to go when it suits them, not you. We've been going to the golden inn for over 15 years now. Our group consists of my family, my parents and my in-laws: a total of 3 rooms. You'd think a hotel would like getting that much business year after year from returning guests. Read on. We were on a "post 4th of july package" - for the 5th, 6th & 7th & 8th. We decided to come in on july 3rd and 4th, realizing we'd pay rack rate for those two nights. They wanted prepayment of 5 nights in advance - the entire package price plus one night of the rack rate stay. Since we were on a package, their cancellation policy is "we keep your money and you get nothing in return."

You can hear cell phones and conversations in the adjoining room; noisy kids running up and down the hallways. One elevator and it'll only hold two people with luggage. Ridiculous. No regard for first time customers -- and from what i've read in the reviews, not much regard for returning customers. Pitiful. The only good thing was the breakfast buffet. But if you order off of the menu, be prepared to wait around 1/2 hour for your food.

It was ok but not great. I think they put us in a smoking room, although I requested non-smoking. I smelled smoke all night and there were used cigarettes in an ashtray on the balcony. Yuck! The walls were very thin also, as we heard people talking all night long. It was clean and the people were nice but the lobby was a lot better than the rest of the hotel. We paid $100 a night which I thought was quite expensive for a very cold night in november and I was shocked to see that the cost goes up to $250+ a night in summer. I would have thought a fair price for this hotel would have been around $75-80 a night in winter and about $150 in the summer. I would not stay in this hotel again unless absolutely necessary.

Interesting to read in the previous review that the east wing (much more expensive and supposedly newer) isn't much better. Our room was near an elevator that woke us all up in the morning (at least they turned it off at night). The tub didn't drain - finally after 3 days and as many attempts, they had a plumber replace the whole drain mechanism.
